Meet Myranda

Workforce Challenge

At fifteen, Myranda dropped out of school and became a mother to a baby girl. She wanted to be a good parent and provide for her child, but without having even a high school diploma, this would be difficult to accomplish.

Workforce Solution

Myranda applied for the WIA Summer Youth Program and was encouraged to enroll in GED classes and go on to college in the fall. To give her more incentive, she was placed on work experience that summer at our local college working in the book store, hoping this would inspire her to further her education.

Outcomes & Benefits

Myranda enrolled in GED classes while working full time on the summer program and received her GED in just a matter of weeks. She also enrolled in our local college that fall and is presently attending her second year there. Her goals are to open her own child care center. “I couldn’t have done it without so much encouragement and help from WIA," she said.
