Meet Penny

Workforce Challenge

Penny was a domestic violence victim who had made the difficult decision to separate from her husband. As a TANF recipient, she was referred to the Ocean County One Stop Career Center for assistance. With three children to support, she needed training to qualify for employment that would bring her to self-sufficiency.

Workforce Solution

With the assistance of her employment case manager, Penny enrolled in a licensed practical nursing (LPN) program funded through WIA. The program was a good fit for Penny, and she excelled in her training.

Outcomes & Benefits

During her clinical training, Penny was recognized as a Student of the Month and also received an Academic Achievement award from the President of the United States. Upon graduation Penny found part-time and ultimately full-time employment at a nursing and rehabilitation center where she has now been employed for two years. As a result of her connection to the Ocean County One-Stop Career Center, Penny is a certified LPN and able to support her family as a single parent.
