Meet Stephanie

Workforce Challenge

Stephanie is a single teenage parent who dropped out of school in the 10th grade. She had to quit her job as a waitress making $2.63 hourly because she had no child care and no transportation. Her only work experience was this limited time as a waitress. She need to obtain her GED and make a career plan that would bring about self-sufficiency.

Workforce Solution

Through the Arkansas Workforce Center, Stephanie enrolled in a GED program. She passed all the tests easily and attained her GED in just a few weeks. After earning this credential, she then needed further training in order to find a job that would pay self-sufficient wages. With tuition assistance and supportive services provided by WIA funds Stephanie completed training as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).

Outcomes & Benefits

As a CNA, Stephanie is now self-sufficient and is working full time to support her two children. She hopes to eventually be able to return to school and go into the RN program.
