Meet Danielle

Workforce Challenge

Danielle was a senior in high school and was preparing for college. She need to earn money to pay for some of her college expenses, but she had no work experience and job prospects in the area were not strong.

Workforce Solution

Danielle participated in a WIA-funded summer work experience at the local newspaper. There, she learned clerical skills in addition to learning about the newspaper industry, printing, advertising and the media. She said, "My only regret is that I didn’t participate when I was in the 9th, 10th, and 11th grades."

Outcomes & Benefits

Through her work placement, Danielle was able to gain some experience and save money for school. "Everyone within the program was very helpful," said Danielle. "Whenever I had a question or concern, someone always addressed it. The money that I earned while working enabled me to open my first checking account and purchase numerous things that I need for college. I’ll advise anybody that if given the opportunity to participate in the Workforce Investment Act program to take advantage of it because it’s a really great way to begin your work experience." Good luck, Danielle!
