Meet Oggie

Workforce Challenge

Oggie had no work experience and limited financial resources when he came to the Altamaha Workforce Area youth program. To be eligible for the Youth Program, a youth must be between the ages of 14-21 and be economically disadvantaged or basic skills deficient, a school dropout, homeless, a runaway, a foster child, pregnant or parenting, an offender, or an individual who requires additional assistance to complete an educational program, or to secure and hold employment.

Workforce Solution

As a summer youth participant, Oggie worked at the Galaxy food mart. There, he learned to show kindness, to help others, and to take initiative in his work.

Outcomes & Benefits

At the conclusion of the summer experience, Oggie shared that he would definitely like to participate in this program next year and would like to have different job opportunities to broaden his horizons. "At any rate," he said, "this was a meaningful experience because I was able to save money. With the money I earned, I purchased a few treats, clothes, shoes, and gave money to my mother. Thank you for this opportunity, and I hope I have it again next year."
