Meet Alex

Workforce Challenge

Alex was working on-call at MultiCare Health System, and was a full-time student. His wife was out of work and also a full time student. Alex was not getting many hours at his on-call position, and often weeks would go by without him getting called in at all. They were living off of student loans to support themselves and their children, and were feeling maxed out. Although he was in his final year of a nursing program, Alex was about to drop out as he could not afford to keep going to school.

Workforce Solution

Alex saw a flyer for the Career Coaching Program, a program designed to assist incumbent healthcare employees with the costs of furthering their education to advance into high wage, high demand healthcare occupations. He applied and was accepted into the program. The program helped cover the costs of Alex’s tuition, books, as well as his exam and licensure fees, so that he could continue with school and complete the nursing program.

Outcomes & Benefits

Alex successfully completed his Associates Degree in Nursing from Tacoma Community College in June of 2010. He passed his NCLEX to obtain his Registered Nurse License and is now working as a RN at MultiCare Health System.

“I want to thank you for all of your help, support and the work you have done for me during this year,” Alex said. “Because of your financial support, I was able to successfully graduate from TCC.”
