Meet Chad

Workforce Challenge

Chad Kastner was working and attending school for his bachelor’s degree when he was laid off due to the economic downturn. He was determined to finish his college degree to better his future employment opportunities, so he increased his course load from 12 to 18 hours. While continuing his course work, he learned about the WIA program and contacted CobbWorks for training assistance.

Workforce Solution

With the help of his workforce development specialist, Chad completed the application process and was approved for funding to help with tuition. He found the program staff knowledgeable and helpful along the way. A few months before graduating he took advantage of the center’s résumé services in preparation for his job search.

Chad graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering from Southern Polytechnic State University. Three days before graduation he received a job offer from Croy Engineering, where he is still currently employed. He also plans to pursue a master’s degree in business administration that will be fully funded by his employer.

Outcomes & Benefits

He is currently the Program Management Field Representative/ Field Engineer/ Site Inspector for Croy Engineering in The City of Powder Springs. Chad is thankful for the opportunity WIA has offered him. He said, “I believe my training I received from Southern Polytechnic through WIA has prepared me for my job and given me the opportunity to be successful. I believe that all of this was made possible for me by WIA.”
