Meet Amber

Workforce Challenge

Amber came to the WIA program in need of a summer job. After working through the WIA Summer Youth Work Experience, she was enrolled in the WIA In-School Youth Program because she needed financial assistance, tutoring services, and work experience.

Workforce Solution

Amber's WIA case manager identified a qualified tutor to give her one-on-one WIA-funded assistance with schoolwork. With the tutor's intervention, Amber passed the classes she in which she'd been struggling. Amber's additional Summer Youth Work Experiences and After School Work Experiences gave her "great connections with people in the work place". She says it helped greatly with her self confidence and she is now able to use them as references. Amber also said it helped her develop a work ethic and prepared her for the real world ahead.

Outcomes & Benefits

Amber is now a freshman at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah. She says, "The [WIA Youth] program is amazing and I encourage everyone who can or wants to join to go for it because it will pay off in the long run." Good luck, Amber!
