Leviton Manufacturing

Workforce Challenge

While many companies in Morganton, NC, continue downsizing in the current economy, Leviton Manufacturing protected local jobs by taking advantage of a training grant provided through the Western Piedmont Workforce Development Board. Leviton Manufacturing manufactures electrical wiring devices. The Morganton facility has been in operation since 1964. They are known in their industry for strong training and education programs.

Workforce Solution

The North Carolina Incumbent Workforce Grant provided 24 hours of training for seven tool room employees to learn e-packs, shrinkage and Esper programming. MC Machinery Systems, a division of Mitsubishi, supplied the factory certified trainer. All seven employees who benefited from the training are journeymen or apprentices in the CNC (computer numerical controls) apprenticeship program.

Outcomes & Benefits

The employees now can maintain and build injection molds in-house rather than outsourcing the work, said the plant manager. The new skillset is a great benefit to the company.
