Meet Gabbie

Workforce Challenge

Gabbie was a nineteen year old, Native American young lady when she enrolled in our program two and half years ago. She was a senior in high school with a 5 month old baby. Gabby had been in and out of households with her mother who struggled with addiction and was in and out of prison. Since she started in the program, she has dreamed of a job in healthcare.

Workforce Solution

Arizona Womens' Education and Employment (AWEE) has supported Gabbie with work readiness training, basic skills tutoring, and a connection to the youth summer employment program. AWEE also exposed Gabby to the process of college enrollment. She completed volunteer work and office training through our office. Additionally, she has received a number of support services including regular support with transportation as well as emergency food and clothing assistance.

Outcomes & Benefits

Despite the many obstacles she has faced (absentee parents, struggles with addiction, domestic violence, poverty), she has stuck to her dream and had not allowed any one of those to become an excuse. While in the program, Gabby completed her high school diploma and has since become enrolled at Bryman College, where she is studying to become a medical assistant. Gabby continues to work hard, earn perfect attendance, and As and Bs.
