Meet Ashley

Workforce Challenge

In the fall of 2009, Ashley was attending the Medical Assistant program at Ogeechee Technical College. After enrolling in training, her husband lost his job, they lost their home and she gave birth prematurely to their second child. The family moved in with her mother-in-law and Ashley continued to attend classes while traveling back and forth to Savannah to get medical care for her new baby boy.

Workforce Solution

When Ashley entered the WIA program, she was in need of assistance to keep her two-year-old daughter in daycare, as well as to pay for her training costs. WIA offered assistance to cover the cost of childcare, uniforms, and supplies. When her HOPE Grant funds ran out in her last few quarters, WIA also took the financial burden for her tuition, fees and books.

Outcomes & Benefits

Before Ashley completed her clinicals, her training site, Bulloch Pediatrics, offered her a position as a Pediatric Medical Assistant, which she accepted. She graduated in September, 2010. Since completing training, Ashley and her family have moved into their own residence, and her daughter is now attending Pre-K. Congratulations, Ashley!
