Workforce Challenge

Stacey is a very talented young man, both academically and athletically. Growing up he was a dear friend to mischief and chaos. When he came into Middle Georgia Consortium, Stacey needed someone and something positive to put him on the right track. He needed a job in order to earn money. He needed a break. He needed someone to believe in him. He needed a chance to prove himself. Stacey applied to work on the WIA program.

Workforce Solution

Stacey was placed at the Goodwill Store in his county of residence, where placement staff knew he'd fit in well and have space to be himself. The site provided work uniforms which eliminated the obstacle of having appropriate work attire. Stacey went through an adjustment period, but settled in and functioned successfully. He was going into his senior year of high school and thought that he would be graduating, but then found that he was short some credits. Stacey met this challenge directly and with appropriate concern: he was obviously maturing. The Middle Georgia Consortium remained determined to support Stacey and see him earn his high school diploma.

Outcomes & Benefits

Stacey is currently attending the Houston County Career and Technology Center from where he hopes to graduate soon. Goodwill was so impressed by his transition and work ethic that they hired him full-time. Stacey has earned his independence and has been doing his research and making post high-school plans. He said, "I've been thinking I might as well stay here and attend Middle Georgia Technical College and play a little ball for the school, especially since I have my job at Goodwill". Good luck, Stacey!
