Meet Sheryl

Workforce Challenge

Sheryl has a history of positive employment experiences. She spent many years as the Connecticut representative of a midwestern manufacturing company, but grew tired of the role of independent contractor. She then spent 5 years at a health insurance provider, until a restructuring lay-off took her job. After that she had a very difficult time finding appropriate employment. She wasn't used to looking for work and felt very insecure about her skills.

Workforce Solution

CTWorks Career Center provided the structure Sheryl needed to regain her confidence and improve her skills while looking for work. She credits her job developer with coaching her and providing support that kept her, as she said, "in a positive frame of mind when I was feeling low. Really positive people work at CTWorks Career Center."

Outcomes & Benefits

Sheryl is a now a Relief Manager for the Public Storage company. She is supposed to fill in for managers on leave, but has already become so well-liked and dependable that she is managing the company's main retail outlet in West Haven. While her pay rate is lower than before, she has benefits and is due for a salary review in a couple of months. She loves her job.
