Meet Anthony

Workforce Challenge

Anthony Collins was part of the Adult WIA program and could not seem to hold down a steady job. His case manager described him as “hard to serve,” meaning that the average program and services were not effective for him. Anthony needed what was defined as “intense services.”

Workforce Solution

Anthony joined the WorkForce Central Job Club, a support group for people who are unemployed, where he was challenged to stop being dependent on services and look at what he could do for the employer, not what the employer could do for him. Anthony spent about five months receiving services, including taking a commercial driving course where he received his CDL (Commercial Drivers License).

Outcomes & Benefits

Anthony is now working full-time as a flagger and truck driver for a Pierce County business with a wage of $30 an hour. “Even though I have a license to do what I’m doing now, the CDL (commercial driving license) pushed me over the top, making me employable,” Anthony said. “It helped to get me into a company that offered what I wanted to do.”
