Meet Matthew

Workforce Challenge

Matthew was born to a mother who only finished the 8th grade. His father was a high school drop-out who floated in and out of his life. Matthew was diagnosed with a learning disability in elementary school, but always had drive and grit to do the best that he could. His perseverance and bright personality led him to the Workforce Investment Act Program.

Workforce Solution

Matthew was the first in his family to graduate from high school as the direct result of the counseling and guidance he received through the Workforce Investment Act Program. As a result of his participation in the program, he received his CPR and Oregon State First Responder certifications. He also completed two work experiences and an internship at the Eugene Water and Electric Board.

Outcomes & Benefits

Matthew was recently hired into full-time employment with a local contractor and is working 40 hours a week with a starting salary of $12 per hour and benefits.
