Meet Deborah

Workforce Challenge

Deborah was laid off from a customer service position in October, 2008. After a long career in the glass industry, which included several years as a business owner, she found herself unemployed.

Workforce Solution

In August 2009 Deborah decided her best option was to go to school for a one-year accounting certificate. She was not able to get Pell Grants, so the Workforce Investment Act program helped her with tuition and books. WIA job developers placed her in an Internship with a local manufacturing company during her training.

Outcomes & Benefits

Deborah performed well, and at the end of the internship the company created a position and hired her to work full-time in the accounting department. Today, she is very happy in her new position. She also is continuing school part-time and taking courses towards an Associate Degree. Congratulations, Deborah!
