Meet Patrick

Workforce Challenge

Patrick was caught off guard when he was suddenly laid off in July 2010 after nine years. He and his wife had two small children and a baby on the way.

Workforce Solution

Patrick visited the Sioux Falls DOL office and learned about the displaced workers program. An employer was willing to hire him but the position would require Patrick to be trained as an admin on an online marketing and sales application. DOL covered the cost for Patrick to take a course and learn the application.

Outcomes & Benefits

After completing training, Patrick was hired as a Marketing Manager and said, “The training program was the key to me getting my job in two ways. It showed my prospective employer that I not only said I was a self-starter, but I had shown that I was doing work to make it easier to hire me before I ever go the job. It also helped ease the expense that the company would need to undertake to train me as an admin for Salesforce.com.” Patrick was hired as a regular full time employee and loves his career with this great company.
