Workforce Challenge

Eric Edwards, a single parent with two sons, age 8 and 9, was laid off from his job in West Palm Beach, Florida, in early 2010 and by June was facing financial disaster. “I was almost losing my home and my car, but worst of all, my pride and dignity,” he said. “I had driven past the Workforce Alliance sign many times, and finally I decided to stop in.”

Workforce Solution

When Eric made his first visit to the Workforce Alliance Career Center, he was greeted by staff members, attended an orientation and learned how to post his resume into the database, Employ Florida Marketplace. A few weeks later a Career Counselor called him to say he wanted to refer him to a job for which he seemed to be fully qualified. It was at a company, Total Truck Parts, Inc, that had recently listed the job order with Workforce Alliance.

Outcomes & Benefits

Eric went for an interview and was accepted for the position of Assistant Warehouse Manager. The President of the company, Marc Karon, wrote to Workforce Alliance, saying: “I want to thank each of you for helping my company. You should know that you are doing a wonderful job and that your hard work has made someone very happy.”

Eric said, “I am thankful to Workforce Alliance and to my new employer. They helped me out of a tough personal situation. I have my pride and my dignity back.”
