Workforce Challenge

Like many small businesses, A.R.E. Manufacturing in Newberg, OR, was challenged to stay competitive. They were experiencing issues with on time delivery, as well as challenges in training employees quickly when higher-level openings occurred in-house.

Workforce Solution

A.R.E. Manufacturing, Inc. joined the Mid-Willamette High Performance Consortium sponsored by the local workforce investment board Job Growers Incorporated, and has benefited from the many programs and grants available and funded by WIA. These programs include Lean Management training, On-the-Job training contracts, and Consortium supported training. With the support of the consortium, A.R.E. is now on its way to obtaining ISO (quality) certification, which will open new markets.

Outcomes & Benefits

Since joining the consortium and participating in training, A.R.E. has had three significant performance outcomes:

1. Reducing inventory levels by 73%, eliminating the need to build a $1,000,000 addition to the facility
2. Reducing Lead Time by 60%
3. Improving On-Time Delivery by 10%
4. Reducing the training time required for an entry level Machinist to become a skilled Machinist Level 2 by 60%.

A.R.E. recently hired eight new employees. Job Growers-sponsored training has paid off not only for A.R.E. but for the local economy as well.
