Meet Yahminah

Workforce Challenge

In 1993, at age 14, Yaminah was living in Atlanta and skipping school, hanging out with the wrong crowd. She was also pregnant. She and her mother moved to South Georgia, in the country, away from her friends and the city life with which she was most familiar. She was in a new school and a new environment and didn't know where to turn. She entered the Workforce Program, then called JTPA, and began to learn about employment, work ethics and real world experiences through the summer program.

Workforce Solution

Yaminah worked in the program at the local Social Security Administration office and the County Magistrate Court until she graduated from High School in 1996.

Outcomes & Benefits

After graduating High School the County Magistrate Court hired her full-time. In 2001, she relocated back to Metro Atlanta with her children and was hired by the Cobb County Sheriff's Department where she still works and is on the Promotional List for Sergeant.
