Meet Mark

Workforce Challenge

In 1992 Mark lived in a family whose father worked hard to support a wife and seven children. He entered what was then called the Job Training Partnership Act program for the summer to earn money to help his family and to gain work experience. In addition, he needed mentoring and guidance to plan his future.

Workforce Solution

Mark worked every summer in the program until he graduated from high school in 1996. He learned job skills, work ethics and how to help his family financially while planning for his own future.

Outcomes & Benefits

After graduating from high school, Mark joined the Navy as a logistician. His first duty station was NATO. In his first two years he visited 27 countries and earned a Letter of Clearance to play professional basketball in Europe. He eventually became a Naval Recruiter in New York and currently works for the Department of Homeland Security. He is attending college for Drafting and Design.
