Meet Rodney

Workforce Challenge

Rodney Davis was working as an entry level Information Technology (IT) technician before being laid off in January 2009. He quickly realized that he would need to upgrade his skills to continue working in the highly competitive IT field. He sought assistance through the Lexington OneStop and Workforce Investment Act (WIA) in returning to the labor force.

Workforce Solution

In May 2009, Rodney was enrolled into the Dislocated Worker Program at the Lexington OneStop. Working with his workforce consultant, Mr. Davis researched his field of interest, and using labor market information was able to create a strong justification for his training assistance through WIA. Rodney enrolled in the Network Administrator program in June 2009 to obtain his Certifications in A+, Network+, and Security+. Shortly after earning his first certification, Mr. Davis was hired for several contract jobs that continued to build his IT resume as he worked on his other credentials.

Outcomes & Benefits

Throughout his training, Mr. Davis worked closely with his workforce consultant to continue building his skills. Once training was completed, he was quickly referred to several computer support technician jobs. Within weeks, Mr. Davis was being courted by two local school districts for open positions, leaving him with the tough decision of which to choose. Today, Mr. Davis is employed as an Information Resource Technician and will soon have opportunities to advance within the school district.
