Meet Rosa

Workforce Challenge

Since being laid off in October, 2009, Rosa had been continuously looking for employment. She tried using online job search engines, newspaper, and even social networks, but she was getting no response. After 10 months of searching on her own, she joined the Workforce Investment Act Program hoping to receive some additional help. As a single mom, Rosa needed a flexible schedule, so it was important to find an employer who offered that benefit. She felt this requirement was limiting her opportunities.

Workforce Solution

She mentioned to her case manager that while researching Labor Market Information she learned that there was a high need for Certified Nurses Assistants (CNA) in South Carolina. With the support of the WIA Program, Rosa completed a CNA course in a matter of weeks and began her job search once again. While in training, she received transportation assistance as well as other supportive services related to her training.

Outcomes & Benefits

Today, Rosa is employed full time with a nursing facility near her home. Her work hours rotate so that she may spend as much time as possible with her child. She is enjoying the work that she does and is grateful for all the support that she received from the WIA Program.
