Meet Taylor

Workforce Challenge

Taylor Kretchmar was a 19 year old with a young child when she heard about the WIA Youth Program. She was a high school graduate, and was living on her own and receiving DHS assistance. She had worked sporadically at minimum wage retail jobs. Taylor had been interested in Dental Assisting for some time, but did not see how it was possible for her to pay for school.

Workforce Solution

Taylor enrolled in the WIA Youth program in May, 2009 through the Eastside Workforce office in Oklahoma City. When she learned that the Youth Program could assist with her dental assistant training, she immediately began checking into various programs, selecting Francis Tuttle Technology Center for her education.

Through the Youth Program, Taylor was able to receive training assistance to pay for her tuition, books and supplies so she could attend Dental Assisting course at Francis Tuttle Technology Center. She was also able to receive assistance with purchasing scrubs needed for her training through supportive services.

Outcomes & Benefits

Taylor completed her training program in May, 2010. Shortly after graduation, she obtained full-time employment in a dental office. When asked about her new career, Taylor said enthusiastically, “I love it!” Taylor is now able to support herself and her child, and has a career with a bright future.
