Meet Lisa

Workforce Challenge

Lisa Pickett only earned her $11.79/hr at her old job and wanted a career change. She had been accepted into nursing school at East MS Community College, and was very excited. Then reality set in when she realized how much money it was going to take to quit working and go back to school full time. This would reduce the family income too much for the Picketts to get by.

Workforce Solution

Lisa then learned that there was help out there at The Golden Triangle WIN Job Center. She qualified for assistance under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to get an Individual Training Account for her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) training.

Her WIN counselor was there every step of the way to help make her dream a reality. Lisa was able to focus on her career and not her financial situation. All she had to do was study, make good grades, and keep him informed of how school was going, and then meet with him at the end of each semester with her grades. He took care of the rest.

Outcomes & Benefits

Lisa completed the LPN program on July 16, 2010 and got her MS Board of Nursing License on August 20, 2010. As Lisa says, “I am now employed full time with North MS Health Services as a Certified Licensed Practical Nurse and I love it! Thank you Golden Triangle WIN Job Center!”
