Meet Lynne

Workforce Challenge

Lynne Jones walked into her local Workforce Oklahoma center after she moved with her two younger children into a two bedroom mobile home owned by her adult son. Lynne was receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) payments and was referred to Workforce Oklahoma by her Department of Human Services case manager to help her find a job. She knew she needed to find a good job to support her family. She had a high school diploma, but no college education.

Workforce Solution

Lynne's case manager at Workforce Oklahoma encouraged her to return to college. "She was my cheerleader that always knew the right things to say," said Lynne. Lynne received financial assistance to pay for tuition, as well as supportive services and counseling.

Outcomes & Benefits

Lynne is now employed as a Veteran's Service Representative, and says, "I am a college graduate with two degrees. I started working at the Veteran's Administration two days after I graduated college. I am buying my house and I have a great career where I can help other people. I would hate to think or imagine where I would be now if it were not for Workforce Oklahoma. The words "Thank You" are inadequate for how I feel."
