Meet Emily

Workforce Challenge

Emily has been interested in Healthcare since she was a little girl. For years, she has wanted to become a Registered Nurse (RN).

Workforce Solution

Emily enrolled in WIA programming in February 2007, which provided tuition assistance and support during her initial training to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). In just over two years, she moved towards completing both her personal and educational goals. In May 2008, Emily completed her training and received her CNA certification soon thereafter. Since that time, she has been working within the Healthcare industry at a long term care facility. Her education will not stop there. To get to her goal of becoming a Registered Nurse, she wants to gain exposure within a hospital setting, and would like to go back to school to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), get her Medication Disbursement endorsement, or start the education track to become a RN.

Outcomes & Benefits

With the creation of a Healthcare Academy by the Denver Office of Economic Development and the Denver Housing Authority, Emily has given back to the community by serving as a guest speaker at the academy. She discusses her story, and brings a real-world perspective to the participants on how to make the most of the programs available to them.

Emily is currently working at Franklin Park Health as a CNA and is attempting to further her education toward her ultimate goal of becoming an RN.
