Meet Jewels

Workforce Challenge

Jewels Jones was a homeless former foster youth. "I had no job, a car that was falling apart and I was living in that car!" she says. She was referred to the WIA Youth program at Workforce Oklahoma by her former foster mother who knew the case managers.

Workforce Solution

Jewels was hired as an office assistant on the Workforce Oklahoma ARRA Summer Youth program. She says when she started work, her clothing was inappropriate and unprofessional. Workforce Oklahoma assisted her by purchasing work clothing. After discovering Jewels was living in her car, the WIA staff assisted her with getting an apartment and helped her by paying her utility deposits.

Outcomes & Benefits

Jewels currently attends college and has a full time job. "My life has taken a turn for the positive! I am so happy that I came and applied for the WIA youth program."
