Meet Jessica

Workforce Challenge

Jessica was most drawn to WIA because of the need for financial assistance and for work experience. While in High School, her father was diagnosed with cancer. In order to help her family with medical bills as well as other bills, she needed a job to provide not only income, but the work experience needed to build a resume for future employment opportunities.

Workforce Solution

In being a part of WIA, Jessica was able to receive financial assistance with school necessities and work through the WIA Summer Youth Work Experience. The work experience helped Jessica contribute financially to help her family in a desperate time of need. After working at a daycare through the WIA Summer Youth Work Experience, she was employed by the daycare for the following fall. "Without the WIA leading me to this daycare for summer employment, I would not have had this job opportunity," said Jessica.

Outcomes & Benefits

After high school, through her WIA case manager, Jessica was presented with a full-time job opportunity in education, the field she wants to study in college. Jessica believes the services she received through WIA were invaluable to her success. "WIA offers so many services to youth who would otherwise never be able to experience these things and if this program were to be downsized or eliminated I'd hate to even think what would happen to the affected youth."
