Meet Keointha

Workforce Challenge

Keointha Wilson is a hard-working single parent trying to further her education. She fell on tough times after being unemployed. Each day she was finding it more difficult to provide for her daughter.

Workforce Solution

Keointha began working in the Jefferson Business and Career Solutions Center through the SOARS (Stimulus Offers a Rewarding Summer) Youth Development Program, a work experience opportunity for disadvantaged youth. She was housed at our Westbank Career Solutions center. As worked progressed, Keointha proved herself to be a hard worker and an effective leader. She worked in a clerical position. Her responsibilities included collecting and organizing timesheets from staff and reporting any discrepancies, filing, copying and answering phones.

Outcomes & Benefits

After the summer ended, Keointha resumed her education at Southern University in New Orleans majoring in Biology. Keointha graduated in May 2010 with her Bachelors of Science in Biology. This single mother of one has drive and determination overcoming every obstacle throughout her journey. In the fall of 2010 Keointha enrolled in Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge. She is continuing education with a concentration in Forensic Science. She is also a current member of the Jefferson Parish Youth Council.

Keointha exemplifies excellence in all that she does. We are proud to have met such a wonderful young lady.
