Workforce Challenge

At WorkSource Downtown Seattle, operated by YWCA Seattle-King-Snohomish, a small WIA investment leverages a great deal more in local government, state government, and private resources to provide career development services for over 5,000 job seekers each year. We equip our clients with the skills and support they need to meet the hiring requirements of local businesses and contribute to our workforce and economy. Here are three examples:

Workforce Solution

At the age of 57, Zewditu had been unemployed for over a year. With the experience she gained by participating in a paid internship at WorkSource funded by the Title V Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), she landed a job at the Seattle Art Museum, where she has now been working for over a year.

After 14 months of job search, Lyle landed a position as a Test Associate, thanks to the job search skills and resume and interviewing tips he gained in classes at WorkSource Downtown.

Michelle is a formerly homeless ex-offender who struggled with chemical dependency for over 10 years. At WorkSource Downtown, she took computer skills classes, improved her job search skills, and received individualized assistance through a County-funded program for ex-offenders. She found a job, and with help from another YWCA program, got an apartment. Today, she is clean and sober, off the street and working full time.

Outcomes & Benefits

City, county, state, federal, and private funds invested in WorkSource Downtown don't duplicate each other. Instead, we coordinate these resources effectively and efficiently to provide the vital mix of services that put thousands of job seekers like Zewditu, Lyle and Michelle back to work in our community every year.
