Workforce Challenge

Ms. Adedolapo "Dolly" Okolo was deemed eligible for the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Adult Participant program in November 2009. She was enrolled in job search services initially and took the personal initiative to enroll herself in training with Galen College of Nursing. She worked with the Hillcrest Road Workforce Solutions Alamo Career Center staff to find resources to help pay for application fees, textbooks, uniforms and care for her children (at no time was she in receipt of Unemployment Insurance benefits).

Workforce Solution

Career Development Specialists were able to assist Ms. Okolo with financial assistance to pay a portion of her tuition in spring 2010. Other supportive services included transportation assistance (fuel cards) throughout her enrollment within the WIA program, rental assistance in Spring 2010, utility assistance, internet assistance (utility-school related), and assistance in payment for her employer required background check.

Outcomes & Benefits

Ms. Okolo is now working full-time at Silver Creek Nursing Home as a Charged Nurse making the median wage for the occupation. The Hillcrest Road Career Center staff has expressed that it has been a privilege to work with "Dolly" during her endeavors to start a new career.
