Meet Ms. Romero

Vicky Romero moved to California believing that she could land a job within four months. Unfortunately, she remained unemployed for a longer time due to the recession. Ms. Romero was unaware of new online job searching methods and did not have a computer. She looked for jobs through newspapers, but to no avail. Her relatives suggested that she should go to the Career Transition Center for help.

Workforce Solution

When Ms. Romero came to the Center, a staff member assisted her with registering an online profile through the Virtual One Stop system. The staff member explained the services the Center could provide at no cost to her, including the ability to use Center computers to access the internet. Through interviewing and resume workshops, Ms. Romero learned the format and correct grammar to use on her resume, as well as how to succeed in an interview. After the workshops, she was able to upload her new resume to various job search sites and continue her search.

Outcomes & Benefits

“Before Pacific Gateway, my life was so stressful and I felt like I was on my own. I no longer feel that way because there are others at the Center that are in the same situation,” said Ms. Romero, who added “There are so many new ways to do job searching now. Those who have worked for a long time would not necessarily know about the new technology needed to find a job.”

Thanks to the Network’s services, Ms. Romero has reached her employment goal of becoming a Trust Clerk.
