Meet Justine

Workforce Challenge

Justine came to us at the United Way of Greater Monroe County as a high school dropout. She was a single mother and was receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefits. Within six months, she earned her GED. She was determined to get out of the TANF program but the only employment match that could be managed for her was a part-time job at a local fast food restaurant. There, Justine proved herself reliable and hard-working, and she was soon promoted to full-time.

Workforce Solution

Justine has an interest in the healthcare field, and she is now enrolled in our Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program, which will start in February, 2011. Upon successfully completing the mentorship and CNA program, she will become eligible for hire immediately. At that time, her wages will drastically increase and she will be capable of providing a better life for her and her child.

Outcomes & Benefits

Justine has come a long way in a short time. Starting as a high school dropout single mom, she has gotten a GED, gotten a job and been promoted, and enrolled in our CNA program. She still has a long way to go, but her successes so far show that she will succeed and continue up the career ladder to upgrade her position and improve her life.
