Workforce Challenge

Sean first came to the Madera County Workforce Development Office in Oakhurst for services in October 2009. He was 22 years old and had a spotty work history, having performed odd jobs here and there during high school, including working in a bike shop, selling hot dogs, cleaning cars, and light yard work. Sean proved to be very good with hands-on work and discovered that he enjoyed manual labor.

Workforce Solution

In December 2009, Sean completed a work readiness assessment, scoring below average. He then registered with WIN Solutions for remediation and easily scored higher marks when he was re-tested. He also attended the resume workshop and prior to his first job interview, he participated in mock interviews with Workforce staff. A self-motivated young man who is always eager to make the best possible impression, Sean asked questions and took all advice to heart.

Outcomes & Benefits

Sean's determination and persistence paid-off in late June 2010, when he was hired as groundskeeper for Sierra Sky Ranch in Oakhurst. He now has hope for a brighter future and is thrilled to be more independent and self-sufficient.
