Workforce Challenge

Philadelphia's TAIG Inc. operates approximately 150 community homes and provides daytime activities in Philadelphia for individuals with mental retardation, mental illness, addictions and various co-occurring conditions. The company employs more than 1,000 professionals, many of whom work in shifts to provide around-the-clock direct care and supervision of residents which requires a special individual and personality that can handle the requirements of the job.

Workforce Solution

TAIG began working with the Business Services Team at the Philadelphia Workforce Development Corporation, or PWDC, to develop a streamlined recruitment and training program to help hire and train compassionate jobseekers. The company posts fliers for vacant positions in local PA CareerLinkĀ® Centers. Interested jobseekers call a hotline number, and if they qualify for the job, are invited to an informational session to learn more about it.

Outcomes & Benefits

"It's been so successful that we've used PWDC as our sole recruitment agency for the past three years," says Lorraine Bucci, TAIG Project Manager. "As a result, we have seen a huge cost savings because our recruiting costs have been significantly reduced." PWDC places about 100 jobseekers a year in TAIG's training and employment program, and TAIG has experienced a 90-percent retention rate among its employees.
