Meet Candice

Workforce Challenge

Candice was 20 years old and a single mother. Unemployed, she applied for TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) and was enrolled at Job Service North Dakota (JOBS) in August, 2009.

Workforce Solution

Candice attended our Career Building Workshop, which helps people with soft skills, resume writing, interviewing skills, and life skills. She started volunteering at Park View Assisted Living in November 2009 as an Activity Aid/Housekeeper. In January 2010, she applied for Certified Nursing Assistant training and was selected to attend the class in February 2010. The JOBS program helped pay for her CNA training and testing. She took the CNA test in March 2010 and passed the state exam for certification.

Outcomes & Benefits

Following receipt of her certification, Candice was placed under the Subsidized Employment Program (SEP), a program funded through Dept. of Human Services where the employers are reimbursed wages of the employee for 6 months. She continued at Park View Assisted Living, and when the SEP ended, Park View hired Candice as a regular employee. Today, she continues to work at Park View Assisted Living as a CNA.
