Meet Sherryl

Workforce Challenge

Sherryl had been laid off from her former employment. She was finding it difficult to reconnect to employment. She saw her situation and age as a challenge in reconnecting to the workforce.

Workforce Solution

Sherryl was asked to come through the RESEA program at the Mesa County Workforce Center. She saw the benefits the Mesa County Workforce Center could offer and worked closely with Employment Services, participating in assessments, LinkedIn Basics Workshop, Job Search Assistance, Interview Assistance and the Workforce Centers 50+ Networking Group.

After running into some roadblocks in her job search, Sherryl learned about and was enrolled in the WIOA DW program and connected to a local employer who saw Sherryl's potential. Through the WIOA DW program, the employer was offered On-the-Job training to offset the cost of hiring and training Sherryl for their open position.

Outcomes & Benefits

Back to work, Sherryl said, "I wanted to say 'THANK YOU' for being there for me during my journey of unemployment and providing the encouragement that allowed me to move forward. I am like an old model T who was sent to the fabrication shop to be redesigned. The road ahead is not fully paved as I would have hoped, but at least it is a road that leads forward. A road that leads somewhere with new possibilities. Again, thank you. I will strive hard not to let myself, my family, nor you down."
