Meet Ben

Workforce Challenge

Ben was a disabled military veteran who faced significant barriers to employment. He was also homeless when he first came to the Pikes Peak Workforce Center. Having been referred to us by the Rocky Mountain Human Services Homes for All Veterans program, he was assisted at PPWFC by Tony, one of our Veterans Employment Representatives. While conducting a Comprehensive Assessment, Tony learned that Ben was living in his vehicle and thus needed housing assistance as well as immediate employment.

Workforce Solution

Tony worked extensively with Ben to update his resume. Since Ben had carpentry experience, Tony suggested he apply for a cabinet worker position through a local staffing agency. Then Tony arranged for him to be interviewed.

Outcomes & Benefits

As a result of his updated resume and preparation provided to him by Tony and the Pikes Peak Workforce Center, Ben was hired as a carpenter for a local home-construction company. With the assistance of the Volunteers of America, Ben has since found permanent housing!
