Meet Cheree

Workforce Challenge

Cheree was working for a small town public accountant as an Administrative Assistant. She was part-time and needed to make more income. She met with a case manager, who went over available area jobs. The case manager suggested that Cheree might want to return to college for education in a more secure and in demand career field. After research, Cheree decided on accounting. Her request for tuition assistance was submitted, and not long after, approved. She enrolled at Community College of Aurora in August 2013.

Workforce Solution

Cheree continued working at her part-time job for the entire time and stayed in touch with her case manager, informing on grades and attendance. School was a struggle. Cheree was in her late 50s, so she had no class mates her age, except the professors. When she started, she drove from Elizabeth to Aurora twice a week for class and received financial assistance for fuel. She also had a lot of personal and family obstacles to deal with that school year. Even though it was a struggle, she graduated with honors!

Outcomes & Benefits

Cheree was grateful to the state of Colorado for helping her with a new career choice in accounting and her education in that field, which helped her with where her career is today.
