Meet Brittany

Workforce Challenge

Brittany came into our office requesting assistance with tuition for her Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Brittany is a single mom, and at time of enrollment she was receiving food stamps and Medicaid for her and her son. She was working only PRN as a Patient Service Specialist. Due to her school workload, she wasn’t working many hours; therefore she was in desperate need of assistance.

Workforce Solution

Brittany got enrolled in WIOA and received tuition assistance for her BSN training, as well as continuous support from her WIOA case manager.

Soon after graduation, Brittany took her state boards and failed them. Her case manager encouraged her to prepare to retake the exam, and assisted her with a course to help with exam, so that she could be prepared to pass exam and feel confident about the retake. Brittany passed her exam and obtained her RN license.

Outcomes & Benefits

Upon obtainment of RN license, Brittany secured employment and went from PRN to full time employment, making 75% more per hour.
Brittany’s case exemplifies the impact WIOA can have in helping those who are facing significant barriers to enter meaningful careers and get off of public assistance.
