Meet Mario

Workforce Challenge

Mario had a CDL-B license, but he needed a CDL-A to become more marketable. The challenge was that he could speak English, but he couldn't read it. The CDL-A handbook and the permit test are in English. When he took his Tests of Adult Education (TABE), he scored 3.0 on reading and needed to be at a 5.0.

Workforce Solution

We worked with an Aims Community College CDL-A program where he could have the testing information and the CDL-A handbook translated into Spanish. We also worked with the Greeley Motor Vehicle Office so that the official CDL-A permit and test was administered in audio.

Outcomes & Benefits

Mario was able to get his CDL-A license and has been working as a CDL-A truck driver for six months.
