Workforce Challenge

Mr. R had spent 25 years in prison for theft with time added after two escapes from work release. He was now homeless and was living in a shelter when he came to The Work Place. He told the staff “I understand my situation and I am willing to do whatever it takes to better my life.”

Workforce Solution

Mr. R entered The Work Place’s Project TEAM Food Stamp Program. "He took everything we had to offer,” noted his case manager. This included vocational exploration, resume and interviewing skills workshops, and attending onsite recruiting events and job fairs. Meeting regularly with his case manager, he was able to focus his job search and learn about sectors and businesses in which his history would not limit his options. He was also assisted in his efforts to secure housing.

Outcomes & Benefits

Mr. R initially secured a job with a local hospitality company. He subsequently moved into a sales position where he makes $350 per week plus commission. He is expected to secure unsubsidized housing within the month.
