Meet Maranca

Workforce Challenge

Maranda was a single mom of two who recognized that she needed a career rather than a job. Maranda was interested in the medical field, so her TANF case manager referred her over to WIOA for possible help with earning her CNA/phlebotomy certification to help her transition off of TANF and become self-sufficient.

Workforce Solution

Maranda's TANF case manager talked with the Workforce Center, specifically the WIOA program, to see if they could possibly offer her a scholarship to earn her CNA/phlebotomy certification to help her start/develop a career that would allow freedom and options to move up within her career. WIOA met with Maranda and determined that Maranda would qualify for a scholarship to pay for her training.

Outcomes & Benefits

As a result of WIOA providing tuition assistance and career guidance, Maranda is now closing out of TANF and is currently employed as a CNA/Phlebotomist earning a good salary and is eligible for a yearly raise. Maranda has expressed interest in returning to school in the future to obtain her LPN and/or RN to advance in her career and thanked the Workforce for their help in helping her get started within her chosen career field.
