Meet Cutting Edge Computers

Workforce Challenge

Cutting Edge Computers of Gaylord offers in-house IT solutions from PC sales, repair, and network deployment to cloud computing back-up solutions. To continue to serve their clientele with the best service possible, Cutting Edge must continue to be on the “cutting edge” of an ever changing technology. Technology changes at a rapid rate and keeping up with the newest software and hardware advances requires continued training and education for Cutting Edge staff.

Workforce Solution

Unfortunately, it is difficult in northern Michigan to find employees with the skill set that is required to work with this type of business, so Cutting Edge often has to provide staff with the necessary training. To provide the needed training to keep staff up to date on an ever changing product, Cutting Edge worked with Michigan Works! to apply for a Skilled Trades Training Fund grant. Cutting Edge was awarded $2,051 to train three of their administrative staff. North Central Michigan College provided the training, which would help the staff to be more skilled and efficient in the business. As a result of the training, Cutting Edge staff will be more efficient handling customers and can provide top line service to an ever changing product.

Outcomes & Benefits

Office Manager Courtney Willits reported, “STTF benefited my employees by helping them better understand their job, thus serving our customers better.”
Trainee Cindy Keefe, an Office Assistant, said, “I am very grateful for taking these classes. They have helped me do my job more efficiently.”
