Meet Mahabad

Workforce Challenge

Mahabad was working part time as a CNA. She was originally from Iraq and became a US citizen. She and her husband were in debt, and she needed a better income to help support her children. She told me her dream was to become an RN, but she couldn't afford to be in school for 2-4 years. We discussed LPN training, which is a step towards becoming an RN. She agreed and came in for an intake for LPN training.

Workforce Solution

Mahabad was approved for a WIOA scholarship to be applied towards LPN training. She struggled at times with the training, but never gave up. We met or talked on the phone often. With continued encouragement, she prevailed. She received her LPN certificate and license.

Outcomes & Benefits

After graduation, Mahabad was unsure where to apply for an LPN job. With support and encouragement from workforce center staff, she applied to local nursing homes/assisted living facilities. She also appled at Kaiser because they are always looking for good LPN's. She was hired full time at a nursing home making substantially more than at her previous part-time job. She was also hired by Kaiser as an "on call" employee." She's doing well and was very grateful for our assistance.
