Meet Yesenia

Workforce Challenge

Yesenia came to the WIOA Youth Succeed program back in 2014, seeking to complete high school and receive her diploma. Yesenia had switched schools and decided to attend Gateway to College. Yesenia's mother is from Hong Kong and the language barrier for her mother to help Yesenia in school was very hard. School has always been a challenge for Yesenia.

Workforce Solution

The WIOA Youth Succeed program was able to provide guidance and financial support to Yesenia. In 2014, Yesenia would make transportation an excuse for her not to attend class, and WIOA was able to provide this service and Yesenia was able to improve attendance. WIOA also assisted with school clothes and school supplies. In 2015, WIOA assisted with school fees that included summer classes so Yesenia could catch up on credits. In 2016 & 2017, WIOA provided transportation assistance to help Yesenia get to school. The Case Manager was able to provide support and encouragement throughout her journey and supported Yesenia with any challenges she faced such as her mother being diagnosed with cancer.

Outcomes & Benefits

Yesenia worked really hard and was able to complete high school and receive her diploma in May 2017. She began attending Front Range Community College in the fall of 2017.
