Mr. P had a background in Research, Software Implementation, Human Resources and Training and Development. His work experience provided him with an understanding of the current job market and many of the technological skills needed to conduct a contemporary job search. But he came to the JobNet Career Center looking for the kind of “high touch” job search support unique to our settings.

Workforce Solution

Mr. P took advantage of the workshops and services the career center had to offer, but he gave back as well. He participated in a job seeker support group and used his special knowledge of social networking for job search to assist the members of the group. He led one session on this topic. He also relied on the skills of the career center staff and the support of his networking group to conduct one of the most active networking efforts the career center staff had ever seen.

His primary focus was on getting out and making himself visible to potential employers. He did this through developing his own website domain and using LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and through informational interviewing.

Outcomes & Benefits

After a nine month job search Mr. P was offered and accepted a job as an Assistant Vice President at a major Boston bank. With his technical skills in social networking Mr. P knew what he needed to do to find a job… but he needed the career center in order to do it.
