Meet Deysi

Workforce Challenge

Deysi was a young adult thinking about going to college. She had the opportunity to work on a CNA certification in high school and was interested in a career as a Registered Nurse. With her family on food stamps and a tight budget, she was nervous about going to college.

Workforce Solution

Deysi enrolled in the Adams County WIOA Youth Succeed Program and participated in its summer bridge program with Metro State University (MSU), doing a summer work experience and attending workshops to help youth prepare for and transition to postsecondary education. Upon completion of the work experience, she had enrolled in college at MSU and was hired to a work-study position on campus in the same office as her work experience. The WIOA Youth Program was able to assist with purchasing her textbooks that financial aid did not cover.

Outcomes & Benefits

Deysi wrote, "I have developed my communication skills and team building through this job. I have also developed connections that have helped me create my first experience at my first job. Her supervisor wrote, "Deysi is an outstanding employee and a great person to be a part of our department." She is currently attending fall classes and preparing for her CNA state board test.
