Meet Jiselle

Workforce Challenge

Jiselle came to the WIOA Youth Succeed program to get assistance with high school graduation needs. Jiselle had recently lost her father and her family was struggling to keep their home and for Jiselle to stay on track as the Valedictorian of her 2017 class. Jiselle had past school fees which included IB testing fees that the high school could not waive, and she needed assistance with transportation, cap and gown, and post secondary needs.

Workforce Solution

Jiselle worked with case manager to get her school fees paid in full for graduation. Her case manager worked together with the Temporary Aid to Needy Families (TANF) case manager and WIOA and TANF management to assist Jiselle's family with rental needs as well as with guidance and counseling to continue to heal the family. Jiselle and her case manager worked together to find scholarships and work on financial aid for fall 2017 college entry. Her case manager also assisted with parking pass and transportation assistance for attending high school. Jiselle was able to focus on her studies and continue her path to Valedictorian.

Outcomes & Benefits

Jiselle successfully graduated from Thornton High School on May 15, 2017, as the class of 2017 Valedictorian. Jiselle received numerous scholarships including CU-Boulder scholarships that covered her tuition and housing costs. WIOA Youth Succeed assisted with her fall 2017 college books and she has successfully started classes at CU-Boulder in the honors engineering program as of August 28, 2017. Congratulations to an outstanding young lady! You did it, Jiselle!
